2nd District - Poverty Makes Angry
Back in the summer of 2005, risen from the ashes of the punk / rock ‘n roll bands District and The Revolvers, 2nd District was born. After the release of a 7-inch single and the full-length Emotional Suicide they now release Poverty Makes Angry as their second full-length. This four-piece from the Ruhr-Area present us some straight-up punk rock from the German underground punk rock scene.
The first thing you notice when you put Poverty Makes Angry in your CD-player is that all the songs are catchy as hell. These guys use happy guitar tunes, have written easy choruses to sing along and most tracks are perfect to clap along during a gig also. This catchiness also results in some problems though. When you’ve heard the CD once, you know practically all the songs from start to end. By the time you press play for the second time you’ll get bored easily. Besides this predictability they also don’t deserve an award for originality.
For those die-hard punk fans amongst you this might be a nice release to listen to occasionally. Others will probably think that even one show at a festival with a nice cold beer is too much. You can start choosing your side right now.
